By following these simple tips, you can help freeze some of the heating costs at home and work.
- Turning down the thermostat one degree will save 7% on your heating bill. At work if you’re unable to reduce the temperature yourself, please request this from the Estates team – for non-patient areas 18 degrees is a comfortable level
- Keep doors and windows closed to avoid losing heat. Please report any problems with door and window closures to Estates
- Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) control the level of heat around our sites. These are not on/off devices and once set at a desired level (normally no 3 setting) should not be altered. If TRVs are not working properly please report this to Estates
- If you feel the surface temperature of a radiator and it’s too high, please report this to Estates
- Be mindful that the more layers you wear, the less heating is required
- When outside temperatures rise, please make sure internal heating levels have been adjusted accordingly. If you feel the heating controls aren’t working, please report this to Estates
- Domestic hot water is expensive and should be used as and when required. On hand basins where hot water is provided through a mixer tap, use the sink and plug rather than washing hands under a running tap.
