Sleeping

Problems often seem easier to deal with after a good night’s sleep. Making sure your pillows are fit for purpose can help to make you more comfortable in bed. It can also prevent you losing sleep due to pain.

There is no right or wrong way, but it can help to experiment with changing your pillows and or reducing or increasing the amount of pillows you sleep with. This can help to relieve and support your body during sleep. This can be especially useful with neck pain.

A pillow between the knees when lying on your side, or under the knees when lying on your back, can also help to support the legs while in bed.

Different mattresses suit different people. There is no right or wrong when it comes to firmness. However, you may find that replacing an old mattress will provide you with more support and comfort.

Make sure you follow a good ‘sleep hygiene’ routine. More information about this can be found on the following links:

If the pain you have at night is worse than during the day, and you can’t get any relief by changing position to make yourself more comfortable, then you should seek medical advice from your GP.

If you have noticed that you have newly started sweating during the night, then this is also something you should talk to your GP about.
