The upper back
The thoracic spine is made up of twelve bones separated by discs. It connects the cervical (neck) and lumbar (lower) spine. It also contains muscles, blood vessels, ligaments, and nerves. The thoracic spine also forms part of the thoracic cage which protects vital organs such as the heart and lungs, by connecting with the rib cage.
Pain is common in this area, particularly when this area becomes stiff. Information to help relieve this is found below.
